United Hmong SW MN - Membership

Membership is the backbone of our organization, giving us the strength, stability, and resources we need to uplift and empower Hmong families across Southwest Minnesota. 1) Membership fuels our mission, fortifying our organization and expanding our ability to support, advocate for, and celebrate Hmong families in Southwest Minnesota. 2) Your membership strengthens our foundation, allowing us to grow our impact and better serve the Hmong families who rely on us throughout Southwest Minnesota. 3) Membership drives meaningful change, empowering our organization to deliver stronger programs, deeper support, and greater opportunities for Hmong families in Southwest Minnesota.

Membership Criteria:

  • A Hmong descendant by birthright or adoption
  • Must be 18 years old or older
  • Must live in Southwest Minnesota

Membership Benefits:

  • Voting Rights
    Members who are 18 years of age or older can cast a vote on decisions, directors, or elections within United Hmong Southwest Minnesota, Inc.
  • Student Scholarship
    Members of any age, adults or kids, can apply based on qualifications to receive many of the scholarships annually.
  • Funeral Support
    Whenever a family member passes away, an adult or a child, the family will receive the following support.
    • The family receives $200.00 to help cover the funeral costs.
    • The family receives 100 lbs. of Jasmine rice to support the funeral.
  • Culture or Ritual Ceremony
    If an event, funeral, or wedding occurs with a member or a family, the following assistance will be provided upon request or as needed. This is purely labor and coordination, not monetary support.
    • Plan and/or coordinate funeral ritual as needed.
      • Traditional Hmong funeral ritual
      • Christian funeral ritual
      • Hmong American funeral ritual)
    • Plan and/or coordinate wedding celebration as needed.
      • Traditional Hmong funeral ritual
      • Christian funeral ritual
      • Hmong American funeral ritual)
  • General Assistance
    Everyday family needs such as legal, automotive, food, education, jobs, transportation, travel, etc. This is case-by-case and depends on whether the resource is available.
